Ultan-O'Brien

Ultan O’Brien is a fiddle player and violist from County Clare with particular interest in performance, composition, and education.
Ultan grew up with traditional Irish music and has since studied contemporary and classical music for violin in Dublin’s Conservatory of Music and with Tamás Ittzés in the Kodály Institute in Kecskemét, Hungary. He holds a degree in Music Education from Trinity College, Dublin and DIT.
Ultan performs and records regularly with:
– Skipper’s Alley: A 6-piece traditional Irish music band
– Aon Teanga:Un Çhengey, a project that aims to reunite the Scottish, Irish and Manx Gaels and celebrates linguistic and musical links between these sister-nations
– Curlew: A trio project of improvised music.
Outside of performance, Ultan works as a composer and centres his work around cultivating collaborative relationships with other performer-composers. Recently he received commissions for new music for performances in China, Korea, Canada, and Dublin.
