Ray Chen to Play in Dublin
Just sharing some really exciting news! One of Bryonie’s Australian students, Ray Chen, who has being doing great things in the last few years, is coming to Dublin! His concert in the NCH is on Feb 19th and I think that lots of young students and not-so-young teachers and musicians would be interested in seeing him play. He’s very handsome and cool, talented, (obviously – he played Carnegie Hall 2 years ago!), he has done a photo shoot for Armani in Vogue L’uomo Italia, and he plays a Stradivarius violin.
Winner of the Queen Elizabeth (2009) and Yehudi Menuhin Competitions (2008), Ray Chen is among the most compelling young violinists today.
“Ray has proven himself to be a very pure musician with great qualities such as a beautiful youthful tone, vitality and lightness. He has all the skills of a truly musical interpreter,” said the great Maxim Vengerov.
Ray has released two critically acclaimed albums on Sony: a recital programme “Virtuoso” of works by Bach, Tartini, Franck, and Wieniawski, and the Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky concertos with Swedish Radio Orchestra and Daniel Harding. Following the success of these recordings, Ray was profiled by The Strad and Gramophone magazines as “the one to watch”.
“The tone he gets is almost human in its slight graininess and glow.” The Washington Post
